So much wrapped up in one embrace
Time spent on assignments, struggles along the way.
Never giving up on you to see you get to today.
No tears falling from either face, we're too happy to finally have made it through.
You and I together son, that's what he had to do!
Thank you for all the trials, tribulations, celebrations and even the strife.
I'm so very proud of your accomplishments and to see what is ahead in life.
Never forget this moment, I hold it so dear
Live life to the fullest, without any fear
I'll continue with you down the path, but walk alongside instead
of leading ahead.
Embracing all that is yet to come with a twinkle in my eye
as I look to the future and try not to cry.

Jessica this is a beautiful poem you wrote for your son. There is something special about those mother-son relationships. I have a son that is 25 years old and I could feel the emotion in your poem as I thought of my own son while reading it. I am so proud of the man he is becoming and smile knowing he is a hard working, caring, loyal man. But the tears do come sometimes when I realize I will never hold him swaddled in my arms or read him bedtime stories. It is certainly bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteI like the format you chose for this blog post. It didn't occur to me to write anything other than a narrative in paragraph format for these assignments. What was your process like creating a more traditional style poem (rhyming), as opposed to a free verse?
ReplyDeleteNatesha, I didn't really have a process, it just sort of came together as I was thinking of all the moments my son and I shared throughout his high school career. Once I realized I was rhyming, I then continued in that fashion.
DeleteI love this, Jessica! I could relate to so much to this as my son just graduated in May as well. I also chose to write a poem to him for this assignment. This is such a time of celebration and transition and I felt your emotion through your words.
